Enemalta registered the highest electricity demand

10.07.2019

Yesterday, the demand for electricity supply reached 510MW, which is the highest level ever recorded by Enemalta plc. This is an increase of slightly less than 5% when compared to the highest ever rate registered before, namely that of 488MW in August 2017. The demand for electricity supply was 15% higher than the demand registered in the same period during the past two years.

In the last two days, some customers of Enemalta, in various locations, experienced disruptions to their electricity supply due to the said increase in the demand that was a result of the far above average temperatures registered in the Malta, for this period. These interruptions, which were localised, were not related to each other.

Thanks to the investment, in recent years, made by Enemalta as part of its programme to automate its substations, many of these interruptions were resolved in a relatively short time. In fact, supply was back to normal after ten minutes in 80% of cases.

During these interruptions there were no issues registered with the generation systems. These facilities were available all the time and were not the cause of any disruptions.

While Enemalta apologizes for any inconvenience caused, the company will continue investing in its distribution system to further improve the quality of service offered to its clients. Enemalta will continue to keep extra personnel on its emergency teams to be able to handle issues as they arise until the current weather situation persists. Enemalta informs the public that any updates will be provided on its Facebook page, while customers experiencing any difficulties should contact the company on its freephone number 8007 2224.
