Burial of the repaired section of the Interconnector cable

Enemalta plc would like to inform the public that following the completion of the repair process of the Malta-Italy interconnector, in the coming hours the repaired section of the cable will be buried in a dedicated trench on the seabed. Since the repair was completed the interconnector cable was being overseen continuously by guard vessels. 

The Polar King,  the specialized vessel entrusted with this task, will arrive tomorrow morning on the site of repair with the necessary equipment to bury the repaired section of the submarine cable. The works are expected to last 2 days, and thus, during this period, the interconnector will be switched off as a precaution. It is planned that the interconnector will be re-energised and put back in service on Friday, 1st May.
