Preparations begin to repair the interconnector

At Delimara we have started the preparations for the arrival of the specialised ship which will be used to repair the interconnector following the damages sustained last March due to a ship anchor.

The repair process will start with the removal of the anchor, then the cable will be lifted onto the ship, cut out the damaged part and implement new cable joints. These works are estimated to take approximately six weeks.

Enemalta’s CEO, Jonathan Cardona, informed TVMnews that the cost of the repair together with the energy expense to compensate for the time when the interconnector will be out of services would cost approximately €50 million. He explained that Enemalta has filed litigation against the ship’s owners in three different nations for damages.
