The European Commissioner for Energy visits Enemalta’s installations

Energy ministers from nine Mediterranean countries met in Malta to discuss the tranistion towards clearner energy and interconnections within the region. During this visit the European Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson and Minister for the Environment, Energy, and Enterprise Miriam Dalli visited some of the sites which form part of our electrical distribution systems.
Enemalta’s management team provided insights on the company’s efforts in strengthening the distribution system, through an investment of 90 million euros spread over six years, in preparation for the energy transition. Notably, this includes the implementation of the second interconnector between Malta and Sicily and the utilization of energy storage batteries.
The site visits included locations such as Kappara’s 132 kV Distribution Centre, the Malta-Italy Interconnector Terminal Station at Magħtab, and a section of the 30-kilometre network of underground tunnels, where Enemalta has installed 110 kilometers of high voltage cables while invested one million euros in these areas throughout the year. The investment program will continue with additional projects valued at 15 million euros per year.
