Enemalta continues network reinforcement works in Siggiewi and other localities
01.09.2023
Enemalta plc is laying 11 kilovolt underground cables in Siggiewi to continue reinforcing its electricity distribution system in this area.
Through these cables, the company is gaining more alternative connections which allow its technical teams to restore electricity supply quicker when difficulties in existing connections arise. In the same locality, preparatory works for the development of a new distribution centre are underway.
Enemalta is continuing to accelerate several projects in different localities to reinforce its electricity distribution system, as part of its long-term investment plan launched last year.
As announced in July, the company is accelerating the implementation of this plan with a total investment of €160 million, as it is doubling its efforts to reinforce its electricity infrastructure in the shortest time possible.
This reinforcement plan includes new distribution centres and substations, the reinforcement and modernisation of existing infrastructure with more advanced equipment, and the laying of kilometres of cables and aerial lines, to increase the capacity, flexibility and security of the network that supplies electricity to customers in Malta and Gozo. These works are being carried out to provide our technical teams with more flexibility to help consumers affected by network difficulties, and to reduce service restoration times.
Some of these projects planned for the coming months were rescheduled to commence earlier, while the company’s engineers are finalising plans for more new projects to continue strengthening electricity infrastructure.
In other localities, such as Hamrun and Bahar ic-Cagħaq, Enemalta is installing several additional feeders which help to reinforce electricity supply to thousands of families and businesses in these localities.
Enemalta is also installing modern equipment in several substations, to upgrade them with more secure technologies, automated systems and increased capacity. Amongst others, over the past days, it laid a new cable in Paola to reinforce a substation near the school.
As part of the network reinforcement plan, Enemalta is commissioning circa 40 new substations this year. Works are underway on 20 of them, including one in Labour Avenue, Naxxar.
The company is also working on the reinforcement of its distribution centres as it finalises plans for a new distribution centre in Naxxar, to develop new infrastructure for customers in this locality and nearby areas, currently relying on the Mosta Distribution Centre. This is one of four new distribution centres Enemalta is developing to continue reinforcing electricity services to meet future demand.
Enemalta technical teams are also working on the reinforcement of aerial lines in several streets across the country. Over the past days, it completed works in Zebbug and Qormi, amongst other localities.
