The high voltage pylons removal project progressed into it’s second phase

The second phase to remove the 18 high voltage electricity pylons which still remain throughout the Maltese islands has commenced.

From a total of 80 such pylons around the country, 36 have already been removed between the area of Ħal Far and Gudja. Work has now begun to remove what is left between Tarxien and Marsa. The plan is that by the end of summer all pylons will be removed.

The Minister for Energy and Water Management, Michael Farrugia, said that to remove these high voltage pylons Enemalta had to improve its infrastructure by installing three 33 kilovolts underground cables from the Delimara Power Station to Ħal Far and two further cables from Mellieħa to Armier, as this is part of the distribution network which provides electricity supply to Gozo.
