Remote switching technology will cover all locations in the coming years

Our substations are connected in the form of a circuit, such that when a fault affecting a group of substations develops, electricity can be supplied through alternative substations within the same circuit.

When the substations effected are not equipped with remote switching technology, in order to perform “switching”, an Engineer together with a technical team go on site to isolate the fault and manually switch the supply from one substation to another.

Through the investment in remote switching technology this operation can be performed from the Marsa Control Room.

To date, 456 substations; equating to approximately one out of every four substations in our network are equipped with this technology. In the coming years, as part of Enemalta’s six-year plan, all localities will be covered with this technology.

This technology significantly reduces power outage durations.
