Power Plant Scaffolder
1. Position Purpose
The primary purpose of the designation of Power Plant Scaffolder is to build and erect scaffolding structures in a professional manner as directed by the Power Plant Advanced Scaffolder. The Power Plant Scaffolder may be assigned on work related to his job description on any plant operated by Enemalta, third parties as well as any related sub-contracted work from third parties in line with the principles as outlined in the performance/collective agreement. The Power Plant Scaffolder shall at all times perform his work in accordance and in compliance with Health and Safety Legislation as well as Health & Safety policies as may be issued by International Energy Service Centre Limited (hereinafter referred to as the “Company” or “IESC”) from time to time.
2. Roles and Responsibilities
2.1 Technical
2.1.1 Erection of Scaffolding Structures
The Power Plant Scaffolder shall be responsible for all the building and development aspects of scaffolding structures and shall be responsible for:
2.1.1.1 Inspecting the material for any defects like breakage, bulges, cracks etc. and ensures that the necessary repairs are carried out in order to avoid any accident;
2.1.1.2 Identifying and determining required equipment, materials and method to be used on each specific fitting job;
2.1.1.3 Carrying out maintenance and repair work of material used to erect scaffolding including maintenance of wood planks, pipes and scaffolding fittings;
2.1.1.40 Cutting of pipes and planks to size for the specific scaffolding structure;
2.1.1.5 Erecting and dismantling scaffolds in raising or lowering tubes, boards and fittings including tower scaffoldings, hoist towers, birdcage scaffolds, trust out scaffolds and cantilever scaffolds amongst others;
2.1.1.6 Instructing and guiding the bottom man in providing the necessary support for erecting the relevant scaffolding structures; and
2.1.1.7 Cleaning jobsite on completion of the relevant works.
2.1.2 Basic Duties
The Power Plant Scaffolder may at times whenever other members of staff within a lower grade are not available be required to perform basic duties. These include:
2.1.2.1 Cleaning of equipment including but not limited to boilers, condensers, sea water culverts and fuel oil tanks;
2.1.2.2 Cleaning and maintenance of interceptors;
2.1.2.3 Helping out and assisting the other members of staff;
2.1.2.4 Carrying out other jobs such as painting and plastering, grinding works, lagging at pipes and trenching works;
2.1.2.5 Assisting plant technicians or civil workers;
2.1.2.6 Carrying out minor civil works, including but not limited to fire bricks/refractory;
2.1.2.7 Ensuring appropriate maintenance and upkeep of the station, workshops and locker room;
2.1.2.8 Providing support and assistance on basic fitting duties;
2.1.2.9 Carrying out paint jobs of brackets and other manufactured structures when these are fitted onto the constructed system;
2.1.2.10 Sandblasting, grinding, cleaning and repainting of equipment;
2.1.2.11 Replacement of electric lamps and fluorescent lamps related to their job;
2.1.2.12 The use of basic hand tools/power tools as may be required;
2.1.2.13 Handling equipment and material issued from the stores to be used on specific maintenance jobs;
2.1.2.14 Laying of cables as may be required related to his job;
2.1.2.15 Operating a chain block;
2.1.2.16 Providing basic assistance to Power Plant Advanced Scaffolders, Power Plant Senior/Mechanical/Electrical Technicians, Power Plant Senior/Welding Technicians & Power Plant Senior/Distribution Workshop Technicians as may be required from time to time; and
2.1.2.17 Driving of Dumper and carrier when transporting material related to his job.
3. Skill Requirements
3.1 Qualification and Work Experience
The Power Plant Scaffolder must:
3.1.1 Be in possession of a recognised qualification in developing basic Scaffolding Structures;
AND
Have two (2) years of work experience in a related field.
OR
3.1.2 Be in possession of a recognised qualification in developing basic Scaffolding Structures;
AND
Have successfully completed an apprenticeship/traineeship of a minimum of one (1) year with IESC.
3.2 Knowledge and Skills
3.2.1 Knowledge and some experience in the design, development and construction of scaffolding structures;
3.2.2 Knowledge of basic fitting skills necessary to assist plant technicians as may be required;
3.2.3 Must be medically fit for work;
3.2.4 Must be able to work in confined spaces and must not be afraid to work at heights;
3.2.5 Knowledgeable of relevant Health & Safety legislation with ATEX installations.
