JOB DESCRIPTION
Designation: Senior Network Administrator (ICT)
Job Purpose
The Senior Network Administrator (ICT) is responsible to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house network infrastructure that supports core organisational functions. This role is also accountable to ensure continuous monitoring, maintenance, support and optimisation of all network devices and infrastructure. The Senior Network Administrator (ICT) shall apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximise the benefit of ICT systems investments. The Senior Network Administrator (ICT) shall also provide continuous guidance to the ICT Networks Team on enterprise networks architecture.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Maintain, configure and administer the Company’s internal network which includes but is not limited to monitoring software, applications software, routers, switches, firewalls, telephony appliances, and other network related equipment;
• Design, plan, configure, deploy, implement and maintain the Company’s network infrastructure (LAN and WAN) which include routers, switches, firewalls, telephony, access point, ISP connections (MPLS, IP-VPN, Lease line, VDSL, ADSL);
• Design, implement and maintain ICT network security infrastructure with solutions such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, failover solutions;
• Actively protect information technology assets and infrastructure from external or internal threats by carrying out vulnerability assessment on ICT devices and networks to ensure that it complies with statutory and regulatory requirements regarding information access, security and privacy;
• Define and perform routine maintenance of the datacentre disaster recovery plans with regular review to keep the corporate standard requirements in term of SLA. Perform backup including replication and restore drills. Plan and conduct periodic disaster recovery test;
• Investigate any actual or potential information security incidents and make recommendations of appropriate solutions to eliminate or minimise their potential effects;
• Enforce policy and standards compliance and analyse the effectiveness of information security controls and provide information security awareness;
• Design network architecture, test and implement network solutions to pre-defined specifications with minimum disruption to the business by using test environments;
• Perform risk analysis and make recommendation to increase the level of security and resilience of the Company’s LAN and WAN environment by protecting network boundaries, keeping network devices hardened against attacks and securing highly sensitive data;
• Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other proper documentation for the network, policies in place and other ICT procedures;
• Performs audit and controls on network security systems, ensuring that patches or updates are done correctly and prepare documentation. Ensure that the escalation process and response team know as much as possible, as quickly as possible about security incidents;
• Evaluate new technologies (software and hardware) to improve services, reliability, resilience, and performance and make recommendations;
• Provides guidance for ICT related projects, ICT teams, and professional services resources. Assist the manager in ensuring that the ICT Infrastructure meets the business requirements such as assisting in the planning and development of improved service;
• Performs any other post-related duties as assigned by the Divisional Manager ICT or his/her delegate.
Academic Qualification & Work Experience
1.1 In possession of a recognised undergraduate Diploma at MQF Level 5 (subject to a minimum of 60 ECTS/ECVET credits, or equivalent) or higher in Computing Studies or an ICT related field; AND
A minimum of five (5) years of work experience in a clerical and administrative role, two (2) years of which must be working directly within Networks Administration.
OR
1.2 In possession of a recognised undergraduate Diploma at MQF Level 4 (subject to a minimum of 120 ECTS/ECVET credits, or equivalent) in Computing Studies or an ICT related field; AND
A minimum of seven (7) years of work experience in a clerical and administrative role, two (2) years of which must be working directly within Networks Administration.
OR
1.3 In possession of one (1) Advanced Level Certificate (which must be in any of the following subjects: Accounting or Maltese or English or Mathematics or Economics or Computing or Information Technology or Marketing or Physics) with a mark which is at least Grade D OR in possession of the Advanced ECDL Certificate; AND
A minimum of ten (10) years of work experience in a clerical and administrative role, two (2) years of which working directly within Networks Administration.
OR
1.4 In possession of six (6) Ordinary Level Certificates (which must include two (2) of the following subjects: Accounting or Business Studies or Computing or Economics or Maltese or English or Mathematics or Physics or Engineering Technology or Information Technology. This can also be the ECDL Certificate) with a mark which is at least Grade 5 in the case of SEC examinations or Grade C in the case of Edexcel (London) examinations; AND
A minimum of twelve (12) years of work experience in a clerical and administrative role, two (2) years of which working directly within Networks Administration.
OR
1.5 In possession of four (4) Ordinary Level Certificates (which must include two (2) of the following subjects: Accounting or Business Studies or Computing or Economics or Maltese or English or Mathematics or Physics or Engineering Technology or Information Technology. This can also be the ECDL Certificate) with a mark which is at least Grade 5 in the case of SEC examinations or Grade C in the case of Edexcel (London) examinations; AND
A minimum of fourteen (14) years of work experience in a clerical and administrative role, two (2) years of which working directly within Networks Administration.
Knowledge & Skills
• Sound knowledge of Cisco equipment, Checkpoint, Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), EIGRP, HSRP, OSPF, VLANs, VTP, VPNs – GRE / IPSec and inter-Vlan routing on Layer-3 switches will be a definite advantage;
• Sound knowledge and experience with fibre-optic technology;
• Solid knowledge of TCP/IP, VPN, DHCP, DNS, routing, NAT, Layer 3 switching, monitoring software, network security and firewall concepts;
• Knowledge of Security Software/Framework, risk assessment tools, technologies and methods;
• Systematic approach to documentation and reporting and adherence to procedures and policies;
• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with a ‘can do’ attitude to build on and improve the network and security infrastructure and effectiveness within the department;
• Commitment and Collaboration – consults colleagues and acts accordingly in response to their concerns;
• Analysis and Innovation – must have the ability and flexibility to step back and review the approach;
• Good planning, organisation and analytical skills;
