Professional Executive (Trading)
1. Job Purpose
The Professional Executive (Trading) shall carry out energy load and dispatch analysis and energy trading functions, and shall form part of the Energy Trading Section within Enemalta plc. This role shall focus on daily optimisation of the dispatch of available energy generation capacities, trading on international energy trading markets, and efficient application of relevant sections of contractual agreements with third-party energy providers. This optimisation shall be informed by analyses and modelling of a broad range of data related to energy trading and dispatch.
2. Key Responsibilities
The Professional Executive (Trading) shall, amongst others, carry out the following duties:
2.1 Analyse historical energy dispatch data and patterns, energy prices of local energy providers and international energy markets, forecasted weather and output of installed PV capacity, and availability of local generating capacity, to develop optimised day-ahead and intra-day hourly dispatch schedules for the available energy sources;
2.2 Carry out daily trading to purchase energy from and sell energy to international energy markets, according to the daily dispatch table developed;
2.3 Effect ongoing review of the results of the successive day-before and intra-day Italian energy markets, in order to take corrective action towards dispatch optimisation, and to exploit favourable opportunities offered by successive day-ahead and intra-day Italian market energy prices;
2.4 Effect ongoing review of the flow of energy from the dispatched sources in response to variances to the forecasted demand, as well as review of changes in the availability and output of local generating capacity, in order to take timely corrective action with regard to the dispatch schedule, where this becomes necessary;
2.5 Develop and execute ongoing trading strategies, operational procedures and standards, forecasting models, as well as develop software programs to implement the same;
2.6 Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends in the cost and availability of energy related commodities;
2.7 Mine information related to the Maltese and international energy markets, and collate the same to develop an up-to-date repository of information;
2.8 Generate daily, periodical, and one-off reports making use of single or multiple information systems and sources;
2.9 Collaborate with the Dispatch Engineers stationed at Delimara Power Station Central Control Room (CCR) and with the Distribution Engineers stationed at Marsa Power Station Network Control Room (NCR) to ensure reliable and cost-efficient energy dispatch operations;
2.10 Engage contacts towards the creation and sustenance of a network including different stakeholders, both within and outside the Company, relevant for the enhancement of knowledge related to market information and trading processes;
2.11 Perform data collection, organisation, application, and analysis, as well as generate reports and recommendations based on conclusions derived from data analyses;
2.12 Perform other work-related duties as assigned by higher authority.
3.0 Skills and Competencies
3.1 • Preferably, trained or/and experienced in trading;
• Ability to work with and analyse large volumes of data within a structured environment;
• Competent in data modelling;
• Excellent computer skills, extensive proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and, preferably, proficiency in Microsoft Access and VBA;
• Proficient in data research;
• Ability to work under constant pressure, make quick and smart decisions, and meet tight deadlines;
• Keen attention to detail;
• Possess excellent teamwork skills;
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Fluent in English and, preferably, in Italian;
• Self-motivated and highly organised;
• Flexible to work irregular hours, and work during weekends and public holidays.
3.2 Academic Qualifications
3.2.1 Must be in possession of a recognised Bachelor’s Degree at MQF Level 6 (subject to a minimum of 180 ECTS/ECVET credits or equivalent ) in Natural Sciences or Engineering or Mathematics or Statistics or Economics or Computer Science/ICT or Management.
3.3 Work Experience
3.3.1 Previous work experience in Energy Management or Analytics will be considered as an asset.
